Tigard residents can drop off leaves and yard debris for free on four Saturdays starting Nov. 7 at Cook Family Park. The city encourages visitors to bring two non-perishable food items to benefit a local pantry that serves nearly 1,000 families.

The Leaf Disposal and Food Drive runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 7, Nov. 21, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 at Cook Family Park, 17005 SW 92nd Ave., according to the city's event calendar. The park sits off Durham Road near Tigard High School.

Leaves, small yard debris and clippings can be loose or bagged. Paper bags, available at local hardware stores, are preferred. Residents who use plastic bags must empty them before city staff will accept the leaves.

The event is free. Food donations go to St. Anthony's Food Pantry, which operates out of St. Anthony Catholic Church at 12630 SW Grant Ave.

Tigard Life reported in August that the pantry had expanded to six days a week and that administrative oversight shifted to St. Anthony Catholic Church on July 1. In that coverage, Pantry Director Jackson Fischer said the operation serves "close to 1,000 families and then a few thousand individuals if you count the family members."

The city listed Rob Block, wastewater operations supervisor, as the contact for the leaf disposal program at 503-718-2607.
