Eight council hopefuls and two mayoral contenders will take questions from Tigard voters Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the city's candidate showcase.

The event runs 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Burgess Community Room at Tigard Public Library, 13500 S.W. Hall Blvd. Ballots for the Nov. 3 election have already landed in mailboxes, and three City Council seats are up for election.

All 10 candidates have been invited, Your Oregon News reported. The council field includes Yousef K. Allouzi, appointed incumbent Tom Anderson, Jeff Darland, Sue Garino, John Goodhouse, Shawne Martinez, Kate Ristau and Gabriel Elijio Velásquez. The seats are elected at-large, meaning every voter picks from the full slate.

The mayoral race pits Yi-Kang Hu, who has held the seat since 2025, against former Tigard City Manager Bill Monahan. Hu, an attorney, was elected to the council in 2022 before becoming mayor. Monahan served as Tigard's city manager from 1994 to 2005 and later managed the city of Milwaukie for six years, according to his candidate questionnaire.

Candidates will speak first. Then the floor opens for audience questions.

Voters who cannot attend in person can watch a Microsoft Teams livestream. No Teams account is needed on a desktop browser, but cellphone viewers must create one or use a call-in number for audio only, according to the city's event listing. Virtual chat and microphone functions will be disabled, so only in-person attendees can interact with candidates.

A recording will be posted publicly after the event.

The council candidates bring a mix of backgrounds. Anderson served seven years on the Tigard Planning Commission before a previous council term from 2016 to 2020 and was appointed to the current council for 2026. Garino spent 18 years with the Tigard Police Department. Martinez, who lives car-free and says he has biked every street in Tigard, serves on the city's Transportation Advisory Committee. Ristau has chaired the Tigard Library Board since 2022.

Washington County mailed ballots beginning Oct. 14, according to the Hillsboro News Times. Completed ballots can be mailed with no postage but must be postmarked by Nov. 3. Ballots can also be dropped at an official site by 8 p.m. Nov. 3. Tigard City Hall, 13125 S.W. Hall Blvd., is one drop location.

The city's event page at tigard-or.gov has the Teams link and call-in details for Tuesday's showcase.
