Tualatin hosts third-ranked Lake Oswego on Monday, Oct. 26, when the Lakers visit the Tualatin Swim Center for a 7:45 p.m. Three Rivers League girls water polo match.
Lake Oswego enters at 4-2 in league play and 15-4 overall, according to MaxPreps. The Lakers dropped a 6-4 decision to unbeaten, No. 1-ranked Lakeridge on Oct. 21, snapping a four-game winning streak.
The Timberwolves sit fourth in the TRL standings at 2-4 in league and 5-11 overall entering the week. Tualatin lost to Lake Oswego 14-2 in the teams' first meeting on Oct. 7.
The gap is wide. But with the regular season ending Oct. 31 and state playoff games set for Nov. 2-12, according to Oregon High School Water Polo, every league result carries weight. State championships are scheduled for Nov. 13-14.
Tualatin's stat leaders include Leela Cobb Rodrigues with 38 goals, Cassandra Boyce with 22 assists and Sophia Jakubs with 40 steals, per MaxPreps. Goalkeeper Libby Beers anchors the defense.
Lake Oswego tested the league's top team in the Oct. 21 loss to Lakeridge. The Lakers shut out the Pacers in the second quarter and led 2-1 at halftime before Lakeridge rallied in the second half, Your Oregon News reported. Junior Alli Krahmer finished with one goal and three steals, while sophomore Merrick Beaumont had one goal, three assists and eight steals.
"I think we stepped up big-time," Beaumont told Your Oregon News after the Lakeridge game. "Our team was just working really well together."
The Timberwolves program has deep roots in the sport. The team's website lists four Class 6A state championships between 2010 and 2014 and three state runner-up finishes.
Tualatin also faces Barlow in a tournament game on Oct. 23 before the Lake Oswego matchup. The Timberwolves' home pool is the Tualatin Swim Center at 22380 SW Boones Ferry Road.
