SW Upper Boones Ferry Road will shut down completely in both directions for four days starting Monday, August 10, blocking a key north-south route for drivers in Tualatin, Durham, and Tigard.

The closure runs around the clock from Monday, August 10 through Thursday, August 13, inclusive, according to a TripCheck alert posted by the Oregon Department of Transportation on Sunday, July 20.

It covers a short stretch of Oregon Highway 141 between mileposts 8.73 and 8.79 in Tualatin, near the railroad crossing.

The City of Durham posted a notice to residents on Monday, July 21, attributing the work to railroad maintenance. Durham said the City of Tualatin alerted them to the planned closure and will post additional details as they become available.

Alternate routes

No official detour has been announced. For drivers seeking alternate north-south routes, I-5 (accessible via SW Nyberg Road or SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road) and OR-99W (Pacific Highway West) are the most direct options during the closure.

Boones Ferry Road is the primary surface-street corridor connecting Durham to Tigard and the OR-217 interchange. A four-day, all-hours shutdown will push commuters and neighborhood drivers onto side streets or the freeway system.

Crossing is a known trouble spot

The railroad crossing at SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road and SW Boones Ferry Road is a known congestion point. The City of Tualatin is separately studying a long-term grade separation project, with results expected by February 2027. The August closure is a short-term maintenance project, not part of that larger infrastructure effort.
