The shuttered Rite Aid at 12240 S.W. Scholls Ferry Road is back in business as a CVS Pharmacy, returning a drugstore to the neighborhood after Rite Aid closed all its stores in fall 2025.

The Tigard location was one of 13 Oregon Rite Aid stores that CVS acquired and reopened under its own banner in August and September 2025, according to OregonLive. The deal was part of a larger 63-store purchase spanning Idaho, Oregon and Washington that CVS finalized on Sept. 30, 2025.

CVS said it hired more than 3,500 former Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs employees across the Pacific Northwest acquisition and now serves more than 9 million patients who previously filled prescriptions at those chains.

"We're helping maintain and expand access to convenient and trusted pharmacy care across the U.S. and growing our retail footprint and presence in local communities," Len Shankman, executive vice president and president of Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness at CVS Health, said in a statement announcing the completed deal last year.

Other Tigard Rite Aid sites: one Ross, one vacant

The Scholls Ferry Road store isn't the only former Rite Aid in town. A second location at 16200 S.W. Pacific Highway, in Tigard Towne Square next to Trader Joe's, has reopened as a Ross Dress for Less. A third, at 12080 S.W. Main St., remains vacant with no known incoming tenant as of August 2026.

That empty storefront mirrors a statewide pattern. More than 40 Rite Aid stores closed across Oregon during 2025 after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in May 2025.

Rite Aid's final stores in Oregon and Washington closed Sept. 29, 2025. At its peak in early 2022, the chain operated 2,451 stores nationwide.

Most Oregon locations still dark

Of those 40-plus Oregon closures, only about a dozen have found new tenants. Nineteen storefronts remain vacant statewide, including locations in Lake Oswego, Oregon City, Wilsonville and four in Portland.

Other former Rite Aids have become a Burlington in Hillsboro, a Planet Fitness in Eugene, a Natural Grocers in McMinnville and a Grocery Outlet in Silverton.

The CVS acquisition nearly doubled the company's footprint in the Pacific Northwest, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. Nearby converted locations include stores in Beaverton at 12575 S.W. Walker Road, Aloha at 17495 S.W. Farmington Road and Lake Oswego at 90 B Ave.

No timeline has been announced for the vacant Tigard location on Main Street.
