A vacant storefront on Southwest Barrows Road has a new tenant. SolVita Wellness Spa opened this spring, bringing infrared sauna, red-light therapy, and a menu of nervous-system-focused treatments to the space formerly occupied by Lux Tan and Cryo.
Co-owners Tonie Lough and Chad Jackson spent more than a year eyeing the location after the previous tenant relocated to Beaverton, according to a Tigard Life profile published July 8.
Lough, a personal trainer, wrote the business plan. Jackson, a Tigard native and remodeling professional, handled the build-out.
Lough's concept grew from her own health crisis. Hidden black mold exposure triggered escalating symptoms that led her to seek treatments targeting the nervous system. That experience became the spa's guiding philosophy.
"The idea is to speak to the nervous system," Lough told Tigard Life. "I want everything to be a hug for the nervous system. The red-light therapy, the sauna, the massage."
The spa's core services include infrared and traditional Finnish sauna, red-light therapy, pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy, and compression therapy.
Additional offerings include massage, microneedling, and buccal massage, a facial-muscle technique Lough says few places in the Portland metro area provide.
Jackson built two handcrafted cedar Finnish saunas for the space. The lounge features neutral tones and a large photograph of Mount Hood taken by one of Jackson's friends on a fishing trip.
Lough said she wanted the spa to feel welcoming to all genders and to function as a community gathering space, not a clinical environment.
SolVita accepts walk-ins and single visits alongside memberships. The spa's website lists memberships starting at $149 per month, which includes access to core services such as sauna, red-light therapy, PEMF, and compression therapy.
Add-on visits are available for $25, with member discounts on massage and microneedling.
Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The spa is closed Mondays. More information is available at solvitaspa.com or by calling 503-521-7979.
