Eight Tualatin High School students are competing at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in San Antonio.

The Tualatin contingent swept all three podium spots in Project Management at the FBLA State Business Leadership Conference.

Seniors Nina Ichikawa, Olivia Pham, and Anders Lien took first, second, and third place, respectively, according to The Wolf, Tualatin High's student newspaper.

Five other Tualatin students also qualified for nationals. Juniors Layla Auvil and Nethra Balakumar won first place in Financial Planning. Junior Dhruvika Vadapu took first in Business Communications. Junior Ashton Benke earned third in Advanced Accounting, senior Lyan Abdulhaq placed second in Entrepreneurship, and senior Alexander Nickle finished fourth in Economics.

All eight are competing at the national conference, which runs June 29 through July 2 at the Henry B. González Convention Center. The High School Awards of Excellence session is scheduled for July 2 from 5 to 9 p.m.

"Be confident, and even if you make a mistake, take a deep breath and believe in yourself," Vadapu told The Wolf.

At the HOSA State Leadership Conference in mid-March, Tualatin students competed in healthcare-related events against peers from across Oregon.

Junior Mia Dwyer earned the school's highest HOSA placement, finishing fourth in Veterinary Science.

Junior Keziah Ocholi placed sixth in Biotechnology and tenth in Biomedical Equipment Technician. Senior Kayla Nguyen placed fifth in Nursing Assisting, and junior Jacob Huffman placed fifth in Medical Spelling.

Junior Katie Tran, who competed in Nursing Assisting, said the experience shaped her career plans.

"I learned from State that I could be really sociable, and I could talk to lots of people from different schools, and it taught me that I really want to go into something medical in the future," Tran told The Wolf.
