Firefighters revived an unresponsive dog with a pet oxygen mask and pulled a large tortoise from beneath a trailer after a house fire broke out July 5, in Sherwood, displacing three residents.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews responded at 8:30 a.m. to the 15300 block of Southwest Clifford Court after multiple callers reported heavy smoke and flames, according to TVF&R.

When firefighters arrived, they found the rear of the home burning and began attacking the blaze while working to protect neighboring houses.

The dog was found inside the home and was not breathing when crews brought it outside. Firefighters applied a pet oxygen mask, and the animal began breathing again. The dog was transported to an emergency veterinary hospital. No update on its condition has been released.

A large tortoise was also discovered under a trailer on the property and taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

No human injuries were reported.

TVF&R brought the fire under control in about 40 minutes. Crews remained on scene afterward to confirm the fire had not spread to other parts of the structure.

The American Red Cross assisted the three displaced residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, TVF&R said.
