Washington County plans to spend $25 million overhauling Alexander Street in unincorporated Aloha, and residents can see the latest designs at an open house Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Living Hope Fellowship, 3350 SW 182nd Ave.

The drop-in event falls on Election Day, so attendees may want to plan around their trip to the polls. No formal presentation is scheduled. County staff will be on hand to walk through proposed changes and discuss property impacts along the corridor.

The project stretches along Alexander Street between 178th and 202nd avenues. According to the county's project page, the corridor serves as a slower alternative to Tualatin Valley Highway for people walking and biking.

Planned improvements include:

  • Sidewalks with ADA-compliant curb ramps on both sides of the street
  • A bike and pedestrian crossing signal at the 185th Avenue intersection
  • Street markings for shared pedestrian and vehicle lanes
  • Parallel parking and landscaping alternating on both sides
  • Upgraded stormwater drainage and surface water treatment

The county also added a sidewalk infill segment between 192nd and 202nd avenues to the project scope in summer 2025, according to the project page. That addition will create a complete sidewalk connection west to 209th Avenue. The County Engineer directed staff to include the extension, and information was mailed to affected property owners in October 2025.

Design work began in 2022 and is expected to wrap up by fall 2027. Construction is expected to start in Spring 2028 and is expected to run through Summer 2029, according to the press release.

Washington County's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP), a countywide fund for road and safety projects, is paying for the work.

The county held a previous open house on April 28, 2025, and ran an online design update in December 2023. The Nov. 3 event is the next chance for residents to weigh in before design wraps up.
