Families can meet a beekeeper, hunt for hidden art and dance to live music at Bridgeport Village's free World Honeybee Day celebration Saturday, Aug. 15.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Village Green, next to the children's play area at 7455 S.W. Bridgeport Road in Tigard. No tickets needed.
Portland children's musician Jessa Campbell and her band The Saplings will perform a Summer Kids' Concert during the celebration.
Campbell, a Parents' Choice Award winner, writes ecology- and STEM-themed songs for young audiences. Her second album, "Forest Flow," won the West Coast Songwriting Competition and earned a "High Five Album of the Week" spotlight on Australia's Kinderling Kids Radio, where host Dave Stevens praised the band's energy and harmonies.
A local beekeeper will give a presentation on the life of bees, and kids can try hands-on activities showing how hives work, create art at a honeybee art bar and take home a free honey stick.
Scavenger hunt runs through Aug. 31
Portland artist Mike Bennett, who won Willamette Week's Best Visual Artist readers' poll in 2025 and 2026, created 12 honeybee-themed illustrations hidden throughout the shopping center. Bennett, a former preschool teacher turned cartoonist, is known for immersive scavenger hunts, including a 50-piece Zelda-themed hunt around Portland in 2023 and a Cool Creature Crawl at the Oregon Zoo in 2024.
The scavenger hunt was already underway as of Aug. 7, according to PDX Parent, and will continue through Aug. 31. Children who find all 12 illustrations and return a completed checklist to the Bridgeport Village security office by that deadline can claim a prize.
