Tigard police officers issued two citations and 27 warnings during a pedestrian safety enforcement operation at intersections across the city on Monday, Aug. 10.
The Tigard Police Traffic Safety Unit logged 28 officer-hours during the operation, which targeted drivers, cyclists and e-bike riders, according to a department news release.
No arrests were made.
The two citations went to a driver with a suspended license and another who failed to register a vehicle. The 27 warnings covered bicycle and pedestrian violations, failure to obey a traffic control device and riding an e-bike on a sidewalk.
The operation was funded through federal grant dollars for officer overtime, distributed by the Oregon Department of Transportation and managed by the nonprofit Oregon Impact. Tigard Police shared the results on X on Aug. 21, noting the 29 total actions.
Year-over-year comparison
A similar pedestrian crosswalk enforcement on Aug. 29, 2025, produced 52 total actions over 32.75 officer-hours, including eight citations and 44 warnings. That operation targeted specific intersections including SW Walnut Street and SW Northview Drive, SW Gaarde Street and SW Greenfield Drive, and SW 121st Avenue and SW Summercrest Drive.
The Aug. 10 operation did not list specific intersection locations, noting only that it took place at intersections throughout Tigard.
According to the release, one goal of the enforcement is raising driver awareness that every intersection in Oregon, whether marked or not, is considered a crosswalk under state law (ORS 801.220), reducing the risk of automobile-pedestrian crashes and injuries.
What's ahead
The Traffic Safety Unit conducts enforcement missions year-round covering pedestrian safety, distracted driving, speeding, DUII and seat belt compliance, all funded through the same federal overtime grants. No date has been announced for the next operation.
