The Tigard Senior Center will shut down for three weeks starting Monday, Aug. 31, suspending its lunch program and all on-site activities while crews replace the roof.

The closure runs through Sunday, Sept. 20, affecting seniors who rely on the center at 8815 SW Omara St. for exercise classes, craft and game groups, educational presentations and special events. The scratch-made lunch program, which serves adults 60 and older on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m., will also pause.

The City of Tigard announced the closure on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The announcement came 13 days before the closure begins.

Home-delivered Meals on Wheels will keep running. The service continues for homebound or mobility-limited residents throughout the closure period. The center operates its meal services in partnership with Meals on Wheels People. Residents who need home delivery can sign up at mowp.org/what-we-do/meals-on-wheels/ or call the center at 503-620-4613.

The City of Tigard said on X on Aug. 17 that the work involves roof construction specifically.

The center normally operates Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Once it reopens on Monday, Sept. 21, upcoming programming is expected to include Medicare counseling and a "Meet Up with the Mayor" event, though the city has not announced specific dates for either.
