Tualatin held its No. 3 spot in the Week 4 OSAA 6A football coaches poll released Tuesday, Sept. 29. Rival Tigard fell out of the top 10.

The Timberwolves sit at 4-0 with 125 points and one first-place vote, up from 105 points and no first-place votes a week earlier, according to the poll published by the Valley Times. Tigard, which debuted as co-No. 10 in the Week 3 poll at 3-0 with 16 points, is listed among the teams that dropped out after falling to 3-1.

The Tigers' exit follows a 39-35 loss at Milwaukie on Friday, Sept. 25. That defeat ended a 3-0 start that had included a 45-14 win over South Medford on Sept. 4.

The two rivals now enter Three Rivers League (TRL) play headed in opposite directions.

Tualatin hosts No. 4 West Linn at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Tualatin High School. The Lions fell from No. 2 to No. 4 in the poll after a 36-35 loss to Nelson on Sept. 25. Both teams enter the TRL opener with one loss between them: all four belong to West Linn.

Tigard hosts No. 7 Lakeridge (3-1, 49 points) at 7 p.m. the same evening at Douglass Memorial Field. A win would pull the Tigers to 4-1 entering the rest of league play.

Tualatin head coach Dom Ferraro set the tone for this stretch early. After the Timberwolves' 52-13 season-opening win over Mountainside on Aug. 28, Ferraro told the Valley Times: "We've got to come out here and prove ourselves on the football field every week."

Four weeks in, his team has done that.

Lake Oswego leads the 6A poll at No. 1 with 13 first-place votes, a 4-0 record and 152 points. Nelson is No. 2 at 3-1 with 135 points and one first-place vote. Grants Pass rounds out the top five at 4-1 with 106 points.

The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) coaches poll is for generating interest and discussion. It has no impact on the RPI and Colley ratings that determine playoff seedings.

Both TRL openers kick off at 7 p.m. Friday.
