The online entry form to paddle a giant pumpkin at Tualatin's Lake at the Commons closes Friday, Aug. 28.
About 20 people will be chosen from submitted forms to climb inside hollowed-out gourds and paddle across the lake as part of the 2026 West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 18.
The annual event, held at 8325 SW Nyberg St. since 2004, features costumed paddlers navigating massive pumpkins that in past years have weighed roughly 1,000 pounds each, grown by the Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers, according to a 2025 event listing.
Entries close tonight.
Prospective paddlers can submit their form at the Tualatin Parks website before the end of the day Friday.
Here's what entrants need to know:
- Pumpkins, life jackets and paddles are provided.
- All paddlers must wear a family-friendly costume.
- Paddlers must be able to swim in that costume in case they tip over.
- Selection does not guarantee a spot. The regatta website warns that because giant pumpkins are agricultural products, the number of usable vessels is not confirmed until race morning.
The regatta has been free to attend for spectators in past years. Previous editions have included vendor booths, face painting, pumpkin golf and strolling entertainment alongside the races, according to the 2025 event listing.
