Tualatin residents can pick up a free emergency Go Bag and collapsible water jug, watch live demonstrations, and meet K9 Onyx at the city's annual Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, September 12.
The free, family-friendly event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tualatin Public Library, 18878 SW Martinazzi Ave., according to Tualatin Life. More than 30 exhibitors will set up with hands-on displays covering water purification, emergency food storage, personal safety, and amateur radio communications.
The fair is sponsored by the Tualatin Public Library, City of Tualatin Public Works, and the Tualatin Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
What to see and do
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue will bring apparatus for up-close viewing, and Tualatin Police will have patrol vehicles and motorcycles on display alongside Public Works dump trucks and heavy equipment.
The department's therapy dog, K9 Onyx, will be available for photos.
The CERT Radio Team plans to demonstrate its Mobile Command Unit and a solar-powered communications hub, showing how emergency communications can continue when phone and internet systems go down.
Visitors can also learn about Ham, GMRS, and FRS radio systems.
Community partners at the fair include the American Red Cross, Washington County Emergency Management, Tualatin Neighborhood Ready, and several Community Information Organizations.
Take-home resources
Each household can claim one free Go Bag and one collapsible water jug while supplies last. Exhibitors will also share information on building emergency supply kits, creating family communication plans, organizing medical information, and preparing children, older adults, pets, and neighbors with additional needs.
Organizers are asking attendees to bring non-perishable food donations for the Tualatin Food Pantry, which provides immediate assistance when grocery stores or supply chains are disrupted during emergencies.
The City of Tualatin's Neighborhood Ready program offers year-round preparedness presentations for residents and businesses, led by trained CERT volunteers.
