Three Tualatin neighborhoods will host public meetings in October where residents can talk directly with city representatives about public safety, transportation, parks and downtown revitalization.

The meetings are part of the city's Community Involvement Organization program, or CIOs, volunteer-led groups that have represented Tualatin neighborhoods since 2011.

The city announced the October schedule, which also includes board elections and general neighborhood updates.

Here's when and where:

  • Midwest CIO: Thursday, Oct. 15, 6–7:30 p.m., The Community at Marquis, 19805 SW Boones Ferry Road
  • Martinazzi Woods CIO: Thursday, Oct. 22, social hour at 6 p.m., meeting 6:30–8 p.m., The Community at Marquis, 19805 SW Boones Ferry Road
  • Riverpark CIO: Saturday, Oct. 24, 10–11:30 a.m., Tualatin City Services, 10699 SW Herman Road

Among the listed topics, downtown revitalization has been a focus citywide. The Tualatin City Council approved two design firms on Sept. 14 to advance the city's downtown and riverfront plans, as first reported by Valley Times. Seattle-based Berger Partnership will design a new Riverfront Park, and Portland-based Walker Macy will lead the next phase of downtown planning. Construction on the park could begin in 2029.

"Keep your eyes on downtown; momentum is building," Mayor Frank Bubenik told Valley Times on Sept. 16 about those plans.

Tualatin has six residential CIOs covering different parts of the city: Byrom, East, Ibach, Martinazzi Woods, Midwest and Riverpark. A seventh represents local businesses. Each group is governed by elected volunteer boards and can apply for up to $2,500 in city grant funding per year for projects and events.

Over the past decade, CIOs have served as community safety advocates and watchdogs on regulation changes, according to the program's website. They also helped create Tualatin's Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, and the Tualatin Neighborhood Ready emergency preparedness program.

The Martinazzi Woods CIO is led by board president Sallie Olson, a 43-year Martinazzi Woods resident who has served on the board for six years as treasurer and then president. She also volunteers with CERT and Tualatin Neighborhood Ready.
