Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue's board of directors will consider investing in drone infrastructure when it meets Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the district's Command and Business Operations Center in Tigard.

The agenda item, listed under new business and presented by Director Hicks, requires a board vote. The posted agenda does not detail what type of drone infrastructure is under consideration or how much it would cost.

The discussion comes as drone technology gains traction in Washington County public safety. The Washington County Sheriff's Office launched a "Drone as First Responder" pilot program earlier this year using Skydio drones that can be airborne in 30 to 45 seconds, according to KOIN.

That program focused on the Aloha area, and the county's Board of Commissioners received a briefing on expanding it on June 2. No source confirms TVFR is pursuing a similar model or partnering with the sheriff's office.

Also on the Aug. 25 agenda: a first reading of Board Policy Section 6.1, which would define the fire chief's role as chief executive officer of the board. Chief Weiss will present that item. The agenda does not describe what the policy would change from the current governance structure.

A second reading of Board Policy Section 10, covering maintenance, is also scheduled. Chief Hitt will present that item, which is eligible for final adoption.

Director Hicks will also present a design-build contract for Station 21. CFO Colgrove will deliver the July 2026 finance report and a Capital Projects Fund 52 update.

The chief's report will include a conflagration update and a recap of Fire Rescue International, held Aug. 12–14.

The district has been investing in its physical footprint this year. TVF&R demolished its 35-year-old administrative building at the Training Center near Sherwood in July, according to Your Oregon News, citing the need for modern facilities. Public affairs officer Jacob Fuhrer said on Aug. 5 that "conversations are currently underway regarding the most suitable type of replacement structure for that location" but that no decision had been made.

The meeting begins at 11945 SW 70th Ave., Tigard, and will be livestreamed on TVF&R's YouTube channel.

The drone infrastructure vote and the Station 21 contract are both listed as action items requiring board approval.
