Tigard, Tualatin, Bull Mountain and Durham veterans are eligible for a Veterans Day honor, and a statewide group needs nominations by Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The Community, Military & Veteran Alliance of Oregon (CMV Alliance) is collecting nominations for the annual Washington County Veterans Day Celebration, first reported by Your Oregon News. The ceremony is set for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Gateway in Hillsboro. The gateway sits at the intersection of Northeast Veterans Drive and Northeast 34th Avenue, near Westside Commons.

Organizers will select one veteran from each of the six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard. Nominees must have a connection to Washington County, whether they live in the county or are involved in the local community. Any resident of the Tigard area who knows a deserving veteran can put a name forward.

The CMV Alliance said nominees do not need a record of medals or military accomplishments. The group is looking for veterans whose stories show service, dedication, resilience, leadership or a positive impact on others. Specific areas of consideration include outstanding leadership, character, community involvement and continued commitment to serving others. Nominations can represent different generations and periods of service.

Anyone can nominate.

You do not need to be a veteran yourself. The CMV Alliance said Veterans Day belongs to the entire community, and it encouraged anyone who has served, supported someone who served or simply wants to express gratitude to take part. Selection is not guaranteed, and honorees will be contacted before the ceremony.

The celebration is free and open to the public. The program includes the presentation of the colors, the National Anthem, recognition of veterans and remarks from special guests. The event has been held annually at Veterans Memorial Gateway, according to a 2025 listing on the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs website.

Co-sponsors include the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans Business Advisory Council of the Washington County chamber, the Washington County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and the American Legion in Washington County.

Nomination forms and details are available at cmvalliance.org/washington-county-veterans-day-celebration. The deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 28.
