Tigard's Westside Christian Eagles hold the No. 5 spot in the OSAAtoday 3A boys soccer coaches poll released Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The defending state champions carry a 3-2-2 record into the middle of their season.
The Eagles collected 46 points and four first-place votes from coaches statewide. They slipped one spot from No. 4.
The ranking comes less than a year after the program made history. Westside Christian defeated Catlin Gabel 2-1 on Nov. 15, 2025, at Liberty High School to claim the school's first-ever boys soccer state championship.
The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) sanctioned the 3A/2A/1A title game.
Sophomore Connor Olivier headed in a corner kick from senior Luke Zeikle with under three minutes left for the title-clinching goal. Head coach Jason Housley reflected on the program's growth after the November 2025 championship.
"We made history that 2023 season and we were here, but we were like a deer in headlights, we just weren't ready for the big scene," Housley said. "Today we were."
The path to that title stretched across three postseasons. Westside Christian reached the championship game for the first time in 2023, losing to McLoughlin.
The Eagles fell in the 2024 semifinals to Oregon Episcopal before breaking through in 2025.
This fall has been bumpier. The Eagles lost to Catlin Gabel 5-3 on Sept. 8 in a Special District 1 league matchup, then fell 3-1 to No. 2 Dayton in a nonleague game on Sept. 17, according to an OSAA soccer notebook. Dayton's Gerardo Garcia scored twice and added an assist. Two days later, Westside Christian tied Yamhill-Carlton 3-3.
The OSAA's own ranking system, which uses RPI and Colley ratings to determine playoff seeding, places the Eagles at No. 7 in the 3A/2A/1A classification. The coaches poll is separate and has no bearing on playoff positioning.
Catlin Gabel leads the coaches poll at No. 1 with a 6-0-1 record and 11 first-place votes. The Coyotes are the team Westside Christian beat for the 2025 title.
Westside Christian plays at Corbett on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. and travels to Creswell on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 4:30 p.m.
