Tualatin residents looking for a way to blow off steam can now smash bottles with a sledgehammer, hurl them at a target wall and top it off with ax throwing, all inside Stickmen Brewing Company's beer hall on Southwest 118th Avenue.

Rage Room Portland opened its second location at 19475 S.W. 118th Ave. on Aug. 1, adding three rage rooms and ax throwing to the brewery's lineup of wood-fired pizza, 28 taps and arcade games. The venue is open Wednesday through Sunday.

Owner Mark Maher partnered with Celtic Axe Throwers, which operates the space. Celtic Axe Throwers bills itself as Portland's longest-running ax-throwing company, with more than eight years in business and over 1,350 five-star Google reviews.

What a session looks like

A tutorial covers three wall buttons: green to request more smashables, red to signal you're done and a third that triggers a loud alarm.

A standard session includes six plastic crates holding 15 to 20 glass bottles. Weapons on hand: a baseball bat, an orange sledgehammer, a crowbar and a golf club. Two rubber car tires mounted on the target wall serve as "tees" for throwing bottles. Electronics like small televisions, printers and big-screen TVs can be added for an extra charge, and optional add-ons include a black light and a Bluetooth speaker so guests can play their own music.

The minimum age is 10 years old.

A parent or guardian must be present for minors but does not have to participate.

Pricing and booking

  • Rage room: from $35 per person (45 minutes)
  • Ax throwing: from $25 per person (one hour)
  • Combo package: from $45 per person (saves $10 versus booking separately)

Sessions can be booked online at rageroomportland.co or by phone at (503) 542-2774.

Recycling and charity

All smashed materials are collected and recycled through Glass Hound, a Portland-based initiative that partners with bars and restaurants to handle glass recycling. A portion of Rage Room Portland's profits supports Oregon Dog Rescue and Puplandia, two organizations focused on finding homes for local dogs.

As we reported July 23, the Tualatin expansion marked Rage Room Portland's first location outside its original St. Johns spot at StormBreaker Brewing in North Portland. The Tualatin venue sits inside Stickmen's production brewery, which also offers family-style seating and a full food menu, giving groups a place to grab a beer and pizza before or after a session.
