TVF&R board votes on drone deal, chief role Tuesday

The Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue board will vote on a drone partnership with Washington County and review the Fire Chief job description when it meets Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Both items appear under new business on the board's posted agenda and require board action. The meeting takes place at TVF&R's Command and Business Operations Center, 11945 SW 70th Ave. in Tigard.

Drone agreement

The Washington County Drone as First Responder Intergovernmental Agreement would formalize a countywide drone program. Chief Fale is listed as the presenter. The agenda does not detail cost-sharing terms, which stations would be involved or when the program would take effect.

TVF&R's Sept. 22 agenda listed a separate Washington County IGA under new business at that meeting. The specific terms of either agreement are not publicly available from the agendas alone.

Fire Chief job description

Director Shipley will present the Fire Chief job description as a new business action item. The agenda does not specify what changes are proposed or whether the review is tied to a recruitment process.

The Sept. 22 board agenda included a second reading of Board Policy Section 6.1, titled "Fire Chief as Chief Executive Officer of the Board," presented by Chief Weiss. That policy does not appear on the Oct. 27 agenda, suggesting the board completed that action at the earlier meeting.

Annual financial report and finance update

Julie Fahey of TKW and Director Smusz will present the district's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report as a staff presentation. Separately, CFO Colgrove will deliver the September 2026 finance report and a quarterly investment report.

Other action items

The board will also consider a second reading of Board Policy Section 11 on community services, a 2027 board meeting calendar, a legislative subcommittee appointment and a Public Employee Benefits Board IGA.

The chief's report includes new hire and promotion announcements, a conflagration update and a reminder about a board workshop scheduled for Nov. 10.

Residents can watch the meeting live on TVF&R's YouTube channel.
