Registration for fall programs at Tualatin's Juanita Pohl Center opens Tuesday, August 11, at 9 a.m., with a lineup that includes floating-restaurant day trips, an AI symposium, the center's first outdoor nature walk, and the annual Veterans Recognition Breakfast.

The center, located at 8513 S.W. Tualatin Road, posted its fall schedule through Tualatin Life, the city's local news monthly. Residents can sign up online at TualatinOregon.gov/JPC, by phone at 503-691-3061, or in person.

Day trips

Four outings anchor the fall calendar: a meal at The Deck, a Portland restaurant that floats on the Columbia River; the Mt. Pisgah Mushroom Festival; a visit to the Willamette Heritage Center; and a haunted walking tour. Specific dates and costs were not listed in the announcement.

Classes and lifelong learning

Friday-morning ukulele lessons return for beginners. The center also added a heart-healthy cooking demonstration called Foods for a Healthy Heart, sessions on body changes during menopause, a Southern Africa wildlife program through the Earthwise Crew, a new puzzle-making class, and a class on building a unique mobile.

Then there's the Owl Prowl. Billed as the center's first outdoor nature program of its kind, it takes participants into the park after dark.

Special events

AI Symposium: Mike Lannen, founder of Burlington, Vermont-based web, digital marketing, and AI consulting firm Eternity, will lead lectures with live demos. Lannen brings more than 26 years of experience in web and digital marketing. In a testimonial published in the center's program announcement, participant Meg C. said: "Thanks to this very easily understood presentation, I am no longer terrified of AI!"

Eye & Ear Health Fair: The center's first health fair focused on vision and hearing, timed to National Audiology Awareness Month and National Eye Health Month. A date has not yet been announced.

Veterans Recognition Breakfast: The annual event is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 10.

How to register

The Juanita Pohl Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Starting August 11, residents can register online at TualatinOregon.gov/JPC, call 503-691-3061, or walk in. The center is operated by the City of Tualatin Parks department.
